Thessaloniki man arrested for allegedly abusing his elderly father

Police in Thessaloniki are investigating a suspected case of elder abuse after an 82-year-old man accused his son of beating him.

State broadcaster ERT on Tuesday reported that the man was admitted to the northern port city's Papanikolaou Hospital on Monday night with injuries to his head and ribs, which, he told the doctor who examined him, had been caused by his son.

Power transmission company employee electrocuted while cutting branches

An employee of power transmission operator ADMIE has been hospitalized after being electrocuted while cutting branches near power lines in the northwestern region of Florina.

State broadcaster ERT said the accident happened after a branch fell on a high voltage cable.

Anti-vax lawyer arrested for dissemination of fake news on COVID-19, then released

Greek police arrested anti-vax lawyer Nikos Anastasiadis last night in accordance with a prosecutor's order that cited the "dissemination of fake news" on COVID-19 and "incitement to disobedience".

A preliminary investigation had previously been conducted by the prosecutor's office following complaints by citizens.

ICU head fears third Covid wave

The head of intensive care units at a large Thessaloniki hospital says the system is under intense pressure from the rising number of coronavirus cases and that he fears a third wave of the pandemic  early next year.

"The situation is desperate, the ICUs are full," Nikos Kapravelos, head of the ICUs at the Papanikolaou hospital, told Skai TV Sunday.

Thursday Covid-19 death toll raised to four

Two elderly women from a retirement home in northern Greece who where among the 33 of the 150 residents and three staff members who had tested positive for Covid-19 died on Thursday, bringing the daily death toll to four.

The 88-year-old woman was being treated in Thessaloniki's AHEPA hospital and the 91-year-old was in Papanikolaou Hospital.
