Hello, let’s start with the unpleasant news. For those of you who thought that by attending the inauguration of the Thessaloniki Metro you would hear some culture from Dionysis Savvopoulos and maybe a few tunes from Antonakis Remos, you were mistaken.

Overjoyed are the Mayor of Athens, Charis Doukas, and his wife, Georgia Polytanou, as they tied the knot yesterday at the Church of St. John Kaloktenis in Thebes, the bride’s hometown.

Shortly after 19:10, the bride arrived at the church to applause and immediately kissed Haris Doukas.

Vasso Papandreou, one of the founding members of the socialist PASOK party, and a former European commissioner, minister and MP, has died. She was 79 years old.

According to reports, she had been struggling with health issues in recent months.

The two contenders in the second round of PASOK's leadership election, current president Nikos Androulakis and Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, cast their votes in Athens on Sunday and made brief statements.

The movements on the internal party chessboard are rapidly developing between the two PASOK leadership candidates ahead of the final battle for the leadership this coming Sunday.

The leadership race for the opposition socialist PASOK party went underway Sunday, with voting starting at 7 a.m. at 950 polling stations across Greece.

Polls close at 7 p.m., although voting may be extended if turnout is high, especially in Athens and Thessaloniki. 

More than 167,814 citizens had voted by 2 p.m.

The clock is now ticking on the internal party elections in PASOK, on Sunday 6 October.
