A total of 543 people with ties to FETÖ have been detained in operations in 59 provinces across the country, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has announced.

In the investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspects were found to be providing financial assistance to FETÖ/PDY members and their families.

A parliamentary commission investigating the July 15 coup attempt has directed 10 questions to Chief of Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, who was abducted by putschist soldiers during the foiled attempt before being saved together with other members of the top brass, according to broadcaster NTV.

The questions are as follows: 

- How did you learn about the coup attempt?

A new state of emergency decree law gives the government the authority to appoint trustees in place of minority shareholders on boards of companies not suspected of being controlled by the movement of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen. 

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed its investigation into a former chief civil inspector who allegedly prevented the detection of public officials involved in the murder of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink.
