President Iohannis preferring political gov't, most likely of or around PNL
President Klaus Iohannis said on Friday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace that a caretaker government is needed, adding that he prefers a political one, and most likely it would be of or around the National Liberal Party (PNL). He announced that he would nominate a prime minister on Tuesday, at the latest.
Romanian Opposition Topples Govt in No-Confidence Vote
The Social Democratic-led government of Viorica Dancila in Romania was ousted on Thursday in a motion of no confidence that received the support of 238 members of the two-chamber parliament.
Only four parliamentarians voted against the motion that needed a simple majority of 233 among the total of 464 deputies and senators to succeed.
Fresh No-Confidence Motion Imperils Romanian Govt
The Romanian centre-right opposition will attempt once more to oust the Social Democratic-led government next Thursday, when a fresh motion of no-confidence is set to be voted on in a joint session of the two chambers of parliament.
Unlike past motions that failed to rally enough MPs, this move to remove Prime Minister Viorica Dancila stands better chances.

EU Council Backs Romania’s Kovesi for Chief Prosecutor Job
The Committee of Permanent Representatives in the EU, COREPER, has voted in favour of Laura Codruta Kovesi as its preferred candidate for the new position of Chief EU Prosecutor, clearing the path for the European Parliament to confirm Romania's former chief anti-graft prosecutor in the post. The parliament has repeatedly expressed support for her.
Three Balkan Women Nominated for European Commission Posts
The president-elect of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced on Tuesday the names of the proposed new European commissioners, including three women from Balkan EU member states.
The proposed names will now be put forward to the European Parliament for votes on their approval.
AEP: Central Electoral Bureau has been set up for presidential elections
The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) informs that on Sunday, September 1, the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) has been set up for this year's presidential elections. According to the minutes completed on this occasion, judges Adina-Georgeta Nicolae, Nina-Ecaterina Grigoras, Elisabeta Rosu, Adrian Remus Ghiculescu and Simona Cirnaru were invested as members of the BEC.
