Man dies after insect bite in the Peloponnese

A 48-year-old man from Viotia, who was on vacation in the Peloponnese, died Thursday afternoon in the intensive care unit of Pyrgos Hospital after being bitten by an insect, state broadcaster ERT reported.

Medical experts suggest the bite may have come from a spider. The man was initially seen by a private orthopedic doctor for leg pain and was later referred to the hospital.

Man dies after participating in fighting wildfire in western Peloponnese

A 55-year-old man who was participating in a firefighting effort in the western Peloponnese has died.

It is understood that the man wanted to assist in battling a wildfire near the village of Alpochori in Ilia prefecture and that he may have choked on some food as he rushed to help.

He was transferred to Pyrgos hospital where, according to local media, he was pronounced dead.

Woman’s critical health condition prompts emergency response to meningitis

A 42-year-old woman in the municipality of Ilida in western Greece is in critical condition after testing positive for meningitis. 

Initially admitted to Pyrgos Hospital, doctors deemed her condition serious, prompting her transfer to the University Hospital of Patras on Wednesday.
