Rouhani's government

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani put forward a new cabinet line-up on Aug. 8 that again included no women, despite criticism of their absence from his reformist allies.

There were no major changes to Rouhani's government, which is expected to continue his push for greater foreign investment and a technocratic approach to reviving the country's stagnant economy. 

Iran's reformist former president Mohammad Khatami has skirted a media ban to endorse moderate incumbent Hassan Rouhani for a second term over conservative challengers in a May 19 election.

Iran's parliament approved a historic nuclear deal with world powers on Oct. 13, effectively ending debate among lawmakers over the agreement and paving the way for its formal implementation.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani warned Dec. 8  that corruption poses a threat to the Islamic republic, pinning the blame in a thinly-veiled attack on powerful monopolies that control the economy.
      
"The people made the revolution in order to wipe out corruption," Rouhani told delegates at a conference in Tehran.
      

President Hassan Rouhani re-entered Iran's feverish debate on Internet censorship and gender segregation Sept. 7, saying neither policy was in the country's interest.
      
Rouhani was elected last year having pledged to be more moderate on social issues after his conservative predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's eight-year tenure, but he has encountered resistance.
