Aid confirmed for farmers stricken by spring frost
Ljubljana – The National Assembly unanimously endorsed on Wednesday a law on measures to help farmers affected by the spring frost. It provides the basis for a final damage assessment and for emergency measures. The majority of deputy groups were in favour of making the aid available as soon as possible.

Pahor to deliver keynote, Janša and Michel to address Statehood Day ceremony
Ljubljana – The keynote speaker at the main ceremony marking Statehood Day and the 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence will be President Borut Pahor, while PM Janez Janša and President of the European Council Charles Michel will deliver addresses as well. The event will be open to everyone, the Government Communication Office (UKOM) said.
Opposition fails to exclude foreign capital from Koper-Divača project
Ljubljana – The National Assembly has narrowly rejected opposition-sponsored changes to the act on the construction of a new railway line between the port of Koper and Divača seeking to strike out the option that allows foreign capital to be invested in the project. Coalition MPs pointed to the role of foreign countries in the port’s development.
Parties critical of govt as EU approves state funding of STA
Ljubljana – Several parties welcomed on Thursday the European Commission’s announcement that the state funding of the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) does not constitute state aid because the STA is performing a public service. Most opposition parties said the government had inquired about this to delay the payment. The government has not responded.
Party officials and experts to meet over exit strategy in March
Brdo pri Kranju – Slovenia’s political representatives and experts will meet in the first half of March in a bid to find a common ground on the exit strategy and restructuring of healthcare needs in the wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, President Borut Pahor has announced.
Bratušek confirmed as MP in place of late Kramar
Ljubljana – Alenka Bratušek, the leader of the opposition party carrying her name, was confirmed as a member of the National Assembly on Wednesday to succeed late Franc Kramar following a session convened in his honour.
