Scotland's Excess Death Rate is One of the Highest in the World
The situation in Scotland has been described as 'particularly acute', according to Jamie Jenkins, former head of analysis for the ONS.
He told The Sunday Times that the excess death rate of people in Scotland, which tracks deaths above the normal level, is higher than Italy and the United States, however is lower than the UK as a whole.

A new poll has revealed that 61 per cent of voters want a second referendum on Brexit once the terms of a deal with the remaining EU countries have been agreed.
The Scotpulse survey for STV found that 59 per cent of those polled think that Brexit will be bad for Scotland, The Scotsman writes.

Spain would not 'initially' block Scotland from joining the EU after Brexit
Spain has said it would not "initially" veto an attempt by an independent Scotland to join the European Union after Britain has left the bloc, its foreign minister said in interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais.
Spain has long been seen as an obstacle to an independent Scotland joining the EU to deter separatists in some of its own regions.

Scottish Parliament Supports New Referendum on Independence
Deputies in the Parliament in Edinburgh voted in support of the initiative of the Scottish government for the holding of a new referendum on independence.
The Parliamentary majority which includes deputies from the Scottish National Party and the Scottish Party of the Greens voted in support of the government's demand.
