Cult epic novel now issued in a comic-strip format
Ljubljana – A Slovenian literary classic that once aroused the interest of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, the epic novel Under the Free Sun has now come out in a comic-strip format with the authors hoping to bring it out on stage and as an animated film one day.

Slovenia submits Sanremo for nomination in Oscars race
Ljubljana – After a successful international festival run and an announced distribution on three continents, Sanremo by Miroslav Mandić has been selected by a group of experts as the Slovenian entry for a nomination for the best international feature film award at the Oscars 2022, announced the Slovenian Association of Filmmakers.
Mako Sajko honoured by peers for his short documentaries
Ljubljana – Mako Sajko, a 94-year-old screenwriter and director known mainly for his short documentaries, won the France Štiglic Award for lifetime achievement as the Directors’ Guild of Slovenia presented its annual accolades at the Slovenian Cinematheque on Wednesday.
Call for TV series based on Jančar’s acclaimed novel withdrawn
Ljubljana – As Slovenia is gearing up for its guest appearance at the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair, the Culture Ministry wanted to have a mini series made based on Drago Jančar’s award-winning novel I Saw Her That Night. But Jančar has asked the ministry to withdraw the EUR 2 million call, which the ministry has done.
Cinematheque to show Marc Recha, Abbas Kiarostami in new season
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Cinematheque is entering a new season with great panache, not just when it comes to its film programme but also in relation to its exhibition venue and publishing and preservation efforts. The pinnacle of the new season will be films by Catalan Spanish filmmaker Marc Recha and Iranian master Abbas Kiarostami.
Culture in the time of coronavirus
Instead of attending cultural events, people can entertain themselves by watching a selection of Slovenian films online provided by the Slovenian Film Centre free of charge.
The films will be added twice a week, with the content available for a week.
