Ex-terror group chief in hospital

The convicted leader of the now defunct November 17 urban terror group, Alexandros Giotopoulos, is reportedly being treated for a pulmonary embolism while under guard at the Sotiria hospital in northern Athens.

Giotopoulos has been in hospital for at least 10 days after suffering a serious respiratory infection, with his health further burdened by his age and other illnesses.

‘Unclaimed’: Giving voice to the disappeared tuberculosis victims

A random leak at the Sotiria Hospital in 2015 revealed the belongings of hundreds of patients who died of tuberculosis in the previous century and were buried unnamed in mass graves in the hospital grounds.

Once Oscar-nominated director and producer Marianna Economou heard about the discovery and gained access to the belongings, it got stuck in her head and heart.

Sunday's first victim was a 66-year-old woman who was being treated at the capital's Sotiria Hospital and suffered from underlying health problems that contributed to her death.

Greece’s coronavirus death toll rises to 143

Greece's death toll from the novel coronavirus has climbed to 143 after three patients, all male, died on Saturday.

Two of the patients, aged 83 and 85, died at Athens' NIMTS Navy Hospital. The third patient died at the capital's Sotiria Hospital. He was 57.

All of them suffered from pre-existing medical conditions.
