Since the last annual commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide in July 2022, the Bosnian state prosecution has only filed one indictment for Srebrenica crimes - charging a suspect who lives in Serbia and cannot be arrested.

The 'Mother's Scarf' art installation, part of the Srebrenica Heroines initiative, will open next month at the Srebrenica Memorial Centre as part of commemorations to mark the 27th anniversary of the 1995 genocide of Bosniaks by Bosnian Serb forces.

The announcement on Friday of a ban on genocide and war crimes denial by High Representative Valentine Inzko, the international official who oversees implementation of the peace deal that ended the 1992-95 Bosnian war, was hailed by representatives of survivors of the Srebrenica gecocide.

The Netherlands Compensation Commission Potocari opened the doors of its Sarajevo office to potential compensation claimants on Tuesday and its website is also open for applications from relatives of people who were killed after being taken from Dutch UN peacekeeping troops' base in Potocari near Srebrenica in July 1995.

Dunja Mijatovic said at the opening of an exhibition entitled 'Srebrenica - Mothers' Long Fight for Justice' in Strasbourg on Wednesday that the Council of Europe should mark July 11 as an official remembrance day for the victims of Srebrenica.

UN tribunal chief Carmel Agius told a conference entitled 'Stop Genocide and Holocaust Denial' in Sarajevo on Thursday that denial of genocide is unacceptable and those who do it should be prosecuted.

"We must always respond by strongly condemning those who deny it," Agius said.

"It is time to start a big cultural attack. People who deny genocide must be uncovered," he added.
