The OPAP gaming company is the strong favorite to win the license for horse racing betting in Greece following Tuesday’s opening of the financial bids by the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED).

The process for the privatization and utilization of the old Athens airport plot at Elliniko will be held up by at least two more months following the rejection on Wednesday of the draft contract for the deal by the State Audit Council.

Retroactive pension cuts imposed on judges, prosecutors and members of the State Legal Council were unconstitutional and in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights, the plenary session of the State Audit Council ruled Monday.

The Elliniko development will open to the public in three years’ time, with work starting in 2015 when Lamda Development pays its first installment to the state for the coastal plot, privatization fund TAIPED told a press conference on Thursday.

“The added value for the country is huge,” TAIPED head Constantinos Maniatopoulos said.
