The Turkish army hit 70 outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Unit (YPG) and 52 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets in the past 24 hours as part of Operation Euphrates Shield in northern Syria, the military said on Oct. 22.

Turkey killed up to 200 Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Unit (YPG), the military wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), in air strikes in northern Syria on Oct. 19 in order to prevent the YPG fighters' march to the town of al-Bab more to the south, security sources said.

The Syrian military said on Oct. 20 that it would bring down any Turkish war planes entering Syrian air space, a response to air strikes carried out by Turkey overnight in northern Syria.

Washington has made an offer to Ankara in which the United States will permit the establishment of a safe zone - something Turkey has been demanding for years - in exchange for Turkey not fighting Syrian Kurdish forces. 

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on March 10 that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant's (ISIL) military commander was badly wounded but still alive, appearing to contradict U.S. officials who said he was "likely killed" in a U.S. air strike. 

The United States has witnessed cooperation between the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Unit (YPG), the military wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), and Russia, according to a top U.S. general. 

The Syrian cease-fire deal does not apply to Turkey if Turkey is under threat, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu said on Feb. 25.

"This [Syrian cease-fire] deal is not binding for us when a party is of threat to Turkey, when Turkey's security is at stake," said Davuto?lu in Turkey's Central Anatolian province of Konya on Feb. 25.
