Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority

The number of Syrian children at education age in Turkey has reached nearly one million, according to the head of Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), Mehmet Halis Bilden. 

Turkish authorities have conducted a search for biological and chemical weapons in a school in which members of the top brass and the country's parliamentary speaker were scheduled to vote in the Çankaya district of Ankara. 

A total of 123 workers have been hospitalized after an explosion in a paint-chemical factory in the Çerkezköy district of the northwestern province of Tekirdağ. 

The workers were taken to hospitals amid fear of smoke poisoning, after which 118 were discharged. The treatment of the five others was ongoing on April 12. 

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck the Marmara province of Çanakkale's Ayvacık district at 1:38 p.m. on Feb. 6, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in a statement, Doğan News Agency has reported. 

The quake's depth was measured at around 9.25 kilometers. 

Rescuers on Nov. 27 recovered two more bodies of miners killed after a landslide at the Madenköy copper mine in the southeastern province of Siirt, a security source said.        

Nine Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels were transferred to the southern Turkish province of Gaziantep from neighboring Kilis, on suspicion that they carried the symptoms of being a victim of a chemical attack, Doğan News Agency reported late on Nov. 27.

At least nine people were killed and more than 100 were wounded in an attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Bağlar district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır early on Nov. 4. 

A substance that caused panic in the northwestern province of Sakarya after a local boy displayed an allergic reaction might have been caused by a battery rather than a radioactive material, the province's governor has said.

The discovery of a radioactive substance stirred panic in the northwestern province of Sakarya on Oct. 20, as a child was hospitalized due to purple-colored spots that appeared on his body. 

The 16-year-old child, identified only as Eyüp B., was hospitalized after playing with a metal object he found in a construction site in the Arifiye district.

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has received the 20th Ayd?n Do?an Award in a ceremony held in Istanbul, marking the first instance of a state institution being recognized by the Ayd?n Do?an Foundation.
