STM signs deal to build ships for Portuguese Navy

Turkish naval defense company STM Savunma Teknolojileri will build logistics support vessels for the Portuguese Navy.

Two auxiliary oiler replenisher and logistics ships will be designed and built in Türkiye, with STM as the main contractor, the company said in a statement.

This marks the first export of military ships by Türkiye to a European Union and NATO member state.

Germany’s Scholz to visit Türkiye on Oct 19

Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected to pay a visit to Türkiye next week for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a German official announced on Oct. 11.

Erdoğan will receive Scholz in the Turkish metropolis Istanbul on Oct. 19, to be followed by a news conference, deputy government spokesperson Wolfgang Buchner told reporters in Berlin.

Türkiye to evacuate citizens from Lebanon on Wednesday

Türkiye is sending ships to evacuate around 2,000 of its citizens from Lebanon on Wednesday, the foreign ministry said.

Two Turkish navy ships are set to depart from the port in Mersin, a southern Turkish province, heading to Beirut on Tuesday, ministry said in a statement on X.

"The total capacity of our ships is approximately 2,000 passengers," the ministry noted.

Turkish defense minister highlights improvement in relations with Greece

The Turkish Minister of Defense, Yasar Guler, discussed Greek-Turkish relations in an interview with the television network Haberturk published on Wednesday.

Yasar Guler stated that there has been an agreement between the Turkish president and the Greek prime minister to reduce tensions and adopt a positive agenda.
