The 41st edition of an Istanbul international book fair is slated to take place between Nov. 2 to 10 this year.

Organized by TÜYAP Fairs in partnership with the Turkish Publishers Association, the fair is anticipated to gather scores of avid readers and valuable writers together.

Istanbul's Sahaflar Bazaar, once a beloved haven for book lovers, now faces a sharp decline as the rise of e-commerce reshapes Türkiye's book market.

With the industry estimated to be worth 4 billion Turkish Liras ($117,268,000), small bookshops are bearing the brunt of this shift.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, the 40th International Istanbul Book Fair will be organized from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5 under the theme of "Long Live the Republic," with the participation of over 1,000 publishing houses and non-governmental organizations.

Book publishing in Turkey has grown by 3.16 percent year-on-year in 2019, an association said.

Independent publishers in the country have published 423 million books in 2019, Kenan Kocatürk, head of the Turkish Publishers Association (TPA), told Anadolu Agency.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the Çukurova Book Fair in southern Adana province.

Organized by TÜYAP Fairs in partnership with the Turkish Publishers Association, the 37th International Istanbul Book Fair will be held between Nov. 10 and 18 at the TÜYAP Fair Congress and Convention Center in Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district. 

The International Publishers Association on Dec. 22 condemned what it called "blatant political censorship" in Turkey, saying three journalists' books had been pulled from shelves on court orders.

The theme for this year's Istanbul Book Fair will be 'Humor: Looking at Life with a Smile.'
