Unemployment hits 4-year highs upon decreasing domestic demand

Turkey's unemployment rate increased to 10.7 percent in the November 2014 period, the highest since October 2010, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜ?K) revealed Feb. 16.

Analysts said the rise was mainly caused by the decrease in domestic demand and the increase in labor force participation.

Non-agricultural unemployment was announced at 12.7 percent.

Too many payroll workers, too few trade unions in Turkey

Turkish capitalism has experienced a long period of growth in the period since 2002 when the Justice and Development Party (AKP) came to power. The wind of this growth was provided domestically and internationally. This growth, which occurred with the push of a foreign capital inflow totaling an annual average of $40 billion, was mostly oriented toward the domestic market.

Turkey a 'net winner' from low oil prices: Deputy PM Babacan

Turkey is a net winner from the decline in oil prices, said Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Jan. 22.

?Our biggest gain from low oil prices is the improvement in our current account balance,? Babacan said, adding that the decline may have a slight negative effect on collecting tax revenues from petroleum products.
