Young woman’s life in danger after brutal attack in Maribor park
Maribor – A 20-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a brutal attack by a 22-year-old man in the Maribor Park on Saturday night left her with life threatening injuries to her head and torso.
Maribor police said the suspect had attacked the victim with “a sharp object” over an apparent disagreement.
Prosecution demands life imprisonment in Christmas triple murder retrial
Ptuj – A retrial for a man charged with murder of his former partner and her parents on Christmas 2020 is coming to an end at the Ptuj District Court. While the defendant changed his plea from guilty in the first trial to not guilty, the prosecution once again proposes life imprisonment. The verdict will be delivered on Monday.
Two women stabbed in separate incidents
Ljubljana – Two women were stabbed on Monday morning in separate incidents involving male perpetrators, both of whom have been apprehended. Both wounded women have been hospitalised.
In Postojna, a man stabbed a 22-year-old woman several times, the Koper Police Department said, adding that the woman had been taken to hospital, while the suspect had been apprehended.

South African variant of novel coronavirus confirmed in Slovenia
Ljubljana – The first case of the South African variant of the novel coronavirus was confirmed in Slovenia on Friday, Health Minister Janez Poklukar told the press. The person from the area of Maribor in the north-east of the country has recently returned from Africa and was vaccinated against the coronavirus before travelling there.
Coronavirus situation a bit better, worsening expected after holidays, Janša says
Maribor – Statistics show an improvement in the epidemiological situation, but the government is aware a partial relaxation of movement restrictions during the Christmas and New Year holidays will produce some new coronavirus cases, PM Janez Janša said on Sunday. He said it was too early to say whether school would reopen on 4 January.
