Bulgaria's Mariya Gabriel has been appointed president of the Robert Schuman Institute, the European People's Party (EPP) announced.
Until recently, her name had been linked to a potential role as NATO Deputy Secretary General. However, that position was instead filled by Radmila Sekerinska, former Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia.

Junior Coalition Partner to Decide on Support for Bulgarian Cabinet
The junior coalition partner, the Reformist (Bloc), will decide on Tuesday whether to continue its support for the Bulgarian government.
The parties constituting RB and the five ministers from the bloc will meet at an extraordinary executive council.
The meeting comes after the resignation of Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov last week and the ensuing splits within the bloc.
