Turkish Pop Star Arrested for ‘Joke’ About Religious Schools

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said that Gulsen "incited people to hatred and animosity" with her comment.

During a concert in April, Gulsen called a religious high school graduate a pervert. She insisted in her testimony to the prosecutor that it was a "joke between colleagues".

Probe launched into 750 people for ‘violating’ virus measures: Minister

Turkish Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül said on April 6 that probes have been launched into 750 people in 66 provinces, for not abiding by the measures the government has taken to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"Investigations have been opened for 750 people in 66 provinces by chief public prosecutors' offices," Gül said.

Prison staff to be isolated after shifts

Employees in Turkey's prisons will go into isolation for a "determined time span" and will not immediately go to their homes after their shifts, the justice minister has said.

"As of [March 30], prison staff will not be sent to their homes for a determined timespan and will stay at isolated locations," Abdulhamit Gül said on March 30.

Turkey's judicial year ceremony returns to Supreme Court of Appeals after presidency controversy

The judicial year opening day ceremony venue will once again be the Supreme Court of Appeals this year, after controversy erupted over the fact that it was held at the presidential palace in Ankara under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2015.  

The Supreme Court of Appeals will host the ceremony on Sept. 5, the date it had traditionally been held for years.

Turkish bar association says electoral board violated law during referendum

A last-minute decision by Turkey's electoral board to allow unstamped ballots in the April 16 constitutional referendum was "clearly against the law," preventing proper records being kept and potentially impacting the result, the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) has stated.
