Hurricane Beryl churns towards Mexico after hammering Jamaica

Deadly Hurricane Beryl powered towards Mexico late Wednesday, after battering Jamaica's southern coast with devastating winds and sea surge.

The Category 4 storm has left a trail of destruction in its path across the Caribbean, killing at least seven people as it has strengthened rapidly.

Hurricane Maria Makes Landfall in Puerto Rico

Hurricane Maria, the devastating storm pushing north-west through the Caribbean, has landed in Puerto Rico, reported BBC.

The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said it arrived in Yabucoa in the east of the US territory, producing winds of 150 mph (250 km/h).

The hurricane is now around 24km (15 miles) southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico's capital.

Hurricane Maria to Become Major Storm Near Caribbean Islands

Maria is expected to become a dangerous major hurricane as it nears the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean, reported BBC. 

The category one hurricane will rapidly strengthen over the next 48 hours and will hit the islands late on Monday, the US National Hurricane Center says.

It is moving roughly along the same path as Irma, the hurricane that devastated the region this month.

The number of people killed by a powerful earthquake off the southern coast of Mexico has risen to at least 61, officials say.
A huge rescue operation is under way in the worst-hit states of Tabasco, Oaxaca and Chiapas where people are feared trapped under rubble.

Hurricane ‘Mathew’ approaches Florida (video)

Hurricane Matthew has strengthened as it moves slowly towards Florida, and is set to be the strongest storm in the US for 12 years.
With winds of 125mph (205km/h), it is expected to hit Florida early on Friday as a Category Four storm.
At 20:00 local time (01:00 GMT), it was 75 miles offshore of West Palm Beach.
