Germany?s secret service has severely restricted cooperation with its U.S. partner the NSA in response to a scandal over their alleged joint spying on European officials and companies, media reported on May 7.

Gemalto has said it was investigating a report U.S. and British spies had hacked its systems to steal the privacy-protecting encryption keys in the chips it makes for mobile phones.

Brazil "forgives" U.S. for spying on president

BRASILIA -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on Friday spoke with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden during her inauguration.

Exactly two weeks after summoning German Ambassador to Ankara Eberhard Pohl over electronic spying claims, the Turkish Foreign Ministry yesterday summoned the U.S. chargé d’affaires in Ankara, Jess Bailey, over similar claims. They demanded the U.S. stop spying on Turkey at once, “if the claims are true.”

U.S. publishes images claiming to show Russian attacks

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. has stepped up pressure on Russia by publishing satellite images allegedly showing missiles fired from Russia against the east of Ukraine.

Some also footage allegedly shows that heavy artillery, intended for pro-Russian activists, crossing the border.

The question to bear in mind, when reading this whole sorry tale, is this. If Americans are, on average, no stupider than Germans, then why are their intelligence services so stupid?

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday allegations that a German man worked as a double agent for U.S. intelligence were serious and, if true, were a clear contradiction of what cooperation between partners is supposed to be about.
   

NSA spying "not good, Serbia powerless" - FM

BELGRADE -- Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić has said that surveillance conducted by the NSA is "not good practice", but that Serbia is "powerless to change anything."

Dačić added that U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) activity "caused mistrust among states."
