At least 149 people including civilians have been killed in 24 hours of clashes between government loyalists and rebels in Yemen's flashpoint city of Hodeida, medics and military sources said Monday, reports AFP. 

A military official in Hodeida confirmed seven civilians had died, without giving further details.

The Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen has sent more than 10,000 new troops towards a vital rebel-held port city ahead of a new assault, Yemeni government officials said on Oct. 30.

The collapse of U.N. efforts to organize peace talks between the Yemeni government and rebels is likely to lead to an escalation in the country's war, analysts say.

At least two people died this night in a car bomb explosion at the Yemeni Finance Ministry in Aden, Reuters reported, citing eyewitnesses and medics.

The Russian ambassador to Yemen has been shot and killed in Sanaa, according to reports coming from the Arab kingdom.

Vladimir Dedushkin was reportedly “keeping a close eye” in the war-torn country.

The diplomat was reportedly assassinated in the capital Sanaa.

The assassination was reported by Saudi Arabia’s Barq news agency.

Saudi-led air strikes and heavy shelling between warring factions shook several cities in Yemen on July 11, residents said, violating a United Nations humanitarian truce which took effect just before midnight. 

Houthi forces and their army allies in Yemen seized the capital of a large desert province on the border with Saudi Arabia on June 14, residents said, an important victory for the group ahead of peace talks in Geneva on June 15. 

Saudi Arabia said all options were open including ground operations to stop mortar attacks on its border towns by Yemen's Houthi militia, as its jets hammered the group's positions ahead of US-led talks on a temporary truce.

Saudi Arabia said its forces on April 30 killed dozens of Iran-backed rebels from Yemen who launched their first major attack on the kingdom since Saudi-led air strikes began last month.

The Yemeni commander of a vast military district covering half the country's border with Saudi Arabia pledged support to Saudi-backed President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi on April 19, local officials said.
