President-elect Donald Trump has announced Brendan Carr as the new Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In a statement issued on Sunday, Trump praised Carr as a "warrior for Free Speech," commending his efforts to combat regulatory overreach and protect American freedoms.

President Donald Trump escalated his war on Twitter and other social media companies on May 28, signing an executive order challenging the lawsuit protections that have served as a bedrock for unfettered speech on the internet.

The US regulatory body has proposed rules to block the purchase by telecommunications companies of equipment from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE and remove any of their equipment that is already available.

The Federal Communications Commission said the rules - which will be voted on November 19 - are part of an initiative to "protect the country's communications networks".
