The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) is gearing up for its 38th ordinary congress scheduled to take place this weekend, on Nov. 4 and 5, where the party's chairman for the upcoming term will be determined.

The public prosecutor in the case into the killing of 19-year-old Gezi victim Ali ?smail Korkmaz has appealed the sentence given to police officer Mevlüt Saldo?an, claiming that Saldo?an should have been sentenced to life in prison on charges of first degree murder.
