Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has slammed the arrest of two educators who have been on hunger strike for more than two months, calling on the government to "not cause an unforgettable disgrace to humanity."
 

The government should look into the situation of Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça, who are currently on hunger strike, Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said May 12 after 30 CHP MPs sent a letter to PM Binali Yıldırım, asking the government to reinstate the two educators who were dismissed through state of emergency decrees. 

Some 30 lawmakers from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) have sent a letter to Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, asking the government to "reconsider the issue" and reinstate two educators, currently on hunger strike, who were dismissed through state of emergency decrees. 

The health conditions of two educators who have been on a hunger strike for over 60 days is deteriorating, while four main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) lawmakers have also launched their own hunger strike in support. 

State-run TRT has demanded royalties from a main opposition lawmaker for footage of a speech that was purchased by the MP from TRT and then broadcast on his own private YouTube channel. 

Arrested journalist Hüsnü Mahalli's health is severely deteriorating, a main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy has said, urging that Mahalli, who has multiple sclerosis, should not be treated under such appalling conditions.

One person was killed and two others were wounded due to the explosion of a fuel tanker in Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district on Dec. 2, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The explosion occurred during repair work on the fuel tanker at a garage in the Tecimen industrial estate on İçel Street in Büyükçekmece.

Arrested People's Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş has said he knew he would be arrested 15 days before his arrest, during a visit from a committee of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) on Nov. 30.

The sole member of a leftist Turkish organization who was convicted and imprisoned eight years ago on charges of attempting to "change the constitutional order by force," was released on Nov. 28 after completing his prison term.
