Court ruling spells end for broadcaster Mega

In a ruling issued by the Council of State on Friday, it rejected an appeal by private television channel Mega against a decision by the National Broadcasting Council (ESR) to suspend the indebted channel's operation.

Responding to the appeal by Mega and 112 employees, the court noted that a law passed last year dictates that channels must have a license in order to operate.

Trading volume sinks to 16 mln euros

August dawned on the Greek bourse with a return to poor trading volume on Wednesday. Still, the Athens Exchange (ATHEX) benchmark ended in the black after earlier losses were offset during the closing auctions.

The ATHEX general index ended at 761.66 points, adding 0.06 percent to Tuesday's 761.23 points.

Six media firms apply for TV permits, Mega stays out

Representatives of six media companies submitted applications on Thursday to the National Broadcasting Council (ESR) in Athens for a forthcoming tender for private television licenses.

The six applications were from the companies representing Skai, Star, Alpha, ANT1 and Epsilon and from a firm called Tileoptiki Elliniki.

ATHEX: Bourse benchmark gains over 10 pct in May

The notable growth recorded during Tuesday's trading session, which saw the benchmark climb above the 650-point mark for a few hours, was reversed by a late selling spree in banks, although the main index still ended the session with gains. Trading volume was particularly high, mainly thanks to the MSCI index rebalancing.
