Romania's Begu, Mitu, Olaru progress to US Open women's doubles second round
Three Romanian tennis players: Irina Begu, Andreea Mitu and Raluca Olaru advanced to the second round of the women's doubles event at the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, after wins on Thursday in New York. Irina Begu and Andreea Mitu beat the Caroline Garcia (France) / Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) duo 6-4 7-6 (4), in an hour and 45 minutes.

Paris – Tamara Zidanšek continues to make Slovenian tennis history as she has advanced to the semi-finals of the French Open. The 23-year old defeated Paula Badosa of Spain in Tuesday’s quarter-finals in Paris in three sets (7:5, 4:6 and 8:6).

MELBOURNE - Serbians Jelena Jankovic and Viktor Troicki have both been knocked out in the third round of the Australian Open singles.
After 90 minutes of play, Jankovic lost 6-4, 5-7, 9-7 to Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, who will face compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the next round.
