The international community should continue to engage with Afghanistan, Turkey's foreign minister said on Sept. 22. 

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his counterparts exchanged opinions on irregular migration and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan as part of a virtual G20 foreign ministers meeting hosted by the Italian chair of the intergovernmental forum.

Ghani fled Kabul on the same day that the city fell to the Taliban and is now in the United Arab Emirates. He claimed that he did it in order to avoid bloodshed, and along the way he denied that he fled the country with millions of dollars.

The U.K.'s foreign secretary praised Turkey late on Aug. 19 for helping to secure Kabul airport and said the British and Turkish governments are working closely to ensure that evacuations of their citizens as well as Afghan nationals continue safely.

Turkey is ready if needed to hold talks with representatives of the Taliban movement when they form the government, President Tayyip Erdogan told a news conference in Ankara on Thursday.

"Since our aim is to ensure stability and security in Afghanistan - TASS, we will, if necessary, discuss our common agenda with that government that the Taliban will form," Erdogan said.

According to the first recordings, a group of people was shot, who spread a large Afghan flag widely. It is stated on social networks that journalists were not spared either.
The flag of Afghanistan was taken down in every place that the Taliban conquered during their short offensive on the territory of the entire country, launched at the moment when the American troops withdrew.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg thanked Turkey on Aug. 17 for securing Kabul airport and making safe departure possible for those who wish to leave the country.

He added that Brussels would have to co-operate with the radical Afghan movement as they emerged victorious from a decade-long conflict.
The group now has full control of Afghanistan, following the complete collapse of the US-backed Afghan government in 2001.

Former Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, who is now the president of the Serbian parliament, said on Tuesday that negotiations between the Afghan authorities and the Taliban were held in secret in Serbia a few years ago.

President Joe Biden on Aug. 16 defended the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan after the Taliban's stunning military takeover that triggered panic in Kabul with thousands mobbing the airport in a desperate attempt to flee.

Qatari television previously broadcast footage showing Taliban commanders and soldiers celebrating victory in the hallways of the residence and in the office of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who has left the country. The Taliban also said they had taken responsibility for the security of the presidential palace, reports TASS.
