Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has slammed a ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) member over his controversial remarks on "founding a new state," which had prompted outrage from opposition parties. 

Yıldırım criticized AKP member Ayhan Oğan after the latter said the government is "building a new state and its founding leader is President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan."

The leader of the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has slammed a ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) member over his much-debated remarks on "founding a new state." 

MHP head Devlet Bahçeli criticized AKP member Ayhan Oğan after the latter said that "they are building a new state and its founding leader is President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan."

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Mersin lawmaker Aytuğ Atıcı is continuing to grow his beard in protest at Turkey's state of emergency, declared after the failed July 2016 coup attempt.

Atıcı had previously announced that he would not to cut his beard until emergency rule was lifted, and his beard has now reached a length of 15 cm.

Hundreds of thousands of dead fish washed ashore in the Tarsus district of the southern Mersin province on Sept. 19, reportedly due to contamination from a malfunctioning wastewater treatment plant in neighboring Adana.

Officials have warned residents not to consume or touch the fish.
