Croatia Celebrates Anniversary of ‘Storm’ Victory; Serbia Mourns Victims

Croatia's political leadership, wartime generals and war veterans gathered on Thursday in the town of Knin to mark the anniversary of the victorious military offensive, Operation Storm, that practically ended the independence war in the country in 1995.

Part of the ceremony took place at the Knin Fortress, while another part was held at the town's football stadium.

Wartime Killing of Serb Family Commemorated in Croatia

The Anti-Fascist League of Croatia held a memorial event on Monday evening for the three murdered members of the Zec family on Sljeme Hill above Zagreb, where they were killed by Croatian reservist policemen during the war in December 1991 - a crime that remains unpunished.

On the 29th anniversary of their deaths, activists laid flowers and lit candles near the site of the killings.

Croatian Serbs Attacked by Masked Assailants in Two Bars

Croatian Serb leaders condemned on Thursday two attacks by masked assailants on local Serbs watching a televised football match near the town of Knin.

The Serbs in the villages of Uzdolje and Djevrske were watching a game involving Red Star from the Serbian capital Belgrade when the attackers burst into the bars, media reports said. Five, including a minor, were lightly injured.

Three companies shortlisted to manage steel mill

BELGRADE - Three companies have been shortlisted to manage the Smederevo steel mill, Boris Milosevic, a representative of KMPG, the steel mill's privatisation adviser, said on Saturday.

The five companies selected earlier on from among seven bidders presented their bids to a commission last week, with three companies shortlisted on Friday as the best bidders, he said.

Zelezara Smederevo publishes call for new management

BELGRADE - Zelezara Smederevo issued a public call in Belgrade-based daily Politika on Friday for a new management, and until the closure of the public call on March 6, Zelezara will keep the current production capacities at 30,000 tons of steel monthly.

The deadline for the submission of proposals for cooperation and concluding of the agreement is March 6, reads the public call.
