Pahor due in Vatican on Sunday for official visit
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor will visit the Vatican on 6 and 7 February at the invitation of Pope Francis to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Slovenia and the Holy See.
Announcing the visit, the president’s office said it would provide an opportunity for an exchange of views on relevant issues of current and future times.

Pahor congratulates Mattarella on new term
Ljubljana – Slovenian President Borut Pahor has congratulated his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella on being re-elected for another term in office, saying he was looking forward to their continued constructive cooperation for the benefit of the two countries.

Pahor, Janša stress good relations with neighbours in address to diplomatic corps
Brdo pri Kranju – President Borut Pahor and Prime Minister Janez Janša highlighted Slovenia’s good relations with all of its neighbours as they hosted the annual reception for the diplomatic corps at Brdo pri Kranju on Tuesday, which was attended by some 85 diplomats accredited to Slovenia. Pahor also discussed relations with Russia and China.

Ljubljana – Slovenian election rules have not been adjusted to the Covid reality yet, says the newspaper Večer on Friday, noting that less than 100 days before the general election, voters should not only be informed of the date of the vote but also of quarantine-related technicalities.
Pahor tells Electoral Commission he’ll call general election for 24 April
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has formally informed the National Electoral Commission (DVK) that he will sign a presidential decree for a general election on 9 February, setting Sunday, 24 April, as the election date. This is in line with his earlier announcement that he would call this year’s election at the earliest possible date.
Pahor says Slovenia advocates one-China principle
Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has said as he responded to PM Janez Janša’s statements about China and Taiwan that ever since Slovenia and China established diplomatic relations, Slovenia has consistently advocated a one-China principle, a principle the EU is also bound to.

Strasbourg – President Borut Pahor will attend in Strasbourg on Thursday a ceremony remembering Valery Giscard d’Estaing, who served as the president of France from 1974 to 1981. On the first anniversary of his death, Giscard d’Estaing will be remembered for his role in the creation of the European Union.
