The Athens Philharmonic Orchestra presents "Historical Experiences" at the Athens Conservatoire (17-19 Vasileos Georgiou, athensconservatoire.gr). The orchestra will perform works by Greek composer Dionysios Lavrangas, as well as French composer Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra and more. Artistic Director Byron Fidetzis will lead this unique program.

Swedish label BIS releases landmark album of works by Nikos Skalkottas
Swedish record label BIS launched what has been hailed as the most systematic and serious effort to showcase the oeuvre of Greek composer Nikos Skalkottas (1904-49) on the 50th anniversary of his death.

Greek operetta reborn after 70 years
"I'll put it simply: 'Perouze' is made for the Herod Atticus Theater. Shortish, in two acts of 45 minutes each, it is theatrical and has very interesting music with a variety of influences - Viennese operetta, Greek folk songs, the Doric harmonies of Byzantine music - and of course its cliches.

Three Greek Women | Athens | March 27
In celebration of the centenary of the birth of Greek composer, pianist and teacher Rena Kyriakou, the Athens Concert Hall introduces two lesser-known but equally important female composers - Mario Foscarina Damaschino (1850-1921) and Eleni Lambiri (1889-1960) - in a concert with the Athens Philharmonic, conducted by Byron Fidetzis, and pianist Giorgos Constantinou. Nikos Skalkottas | Athens | February 13
Virtuoso violinist Giorgos Demertzis, acclaimed pianist Vassilis Varvaresos and the Athens Philharmonic, conducted by Byron Fidetzis, will perform two pieces by Nikos Skalkottas that had been thought lost up until about five years and which he first presented in Berlin in 1930: Suite for piano and small orchestra and his Concerto for violin, piano and orchestra.
