PARIS - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis singles, has withdrawn from Roland Garros due to a knee injury, the tournament organisers announced on Tuesday.
Djokovic defeated Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the fourth round on Monday.
He experienced pain in his right knee during the match.

PARIS - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis singles, is through to the Roland Garros quarter-finals after coming from behind to defeat Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the fourth round on Monday evening.
Djokovic, who won after four hours and 37 minutes of play, is now 1-0 head-to-head against world number 27 Cerundolo.
Djokovic loses to Machac in Geneva semis
GENEVA - Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic lost 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 to Czech Tomas Machac in the semi-finals of the Geneva ATP tournament on Friday afternoon.
After losing the first set, Djokovic requested medical assistance for a wrist problem.

Djokovic to face Frenchman Herbert in Roland Garros first round
PARIS - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis singles, was on Thursday drawn to play Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round of the Roland Garros tournament.
World number 143 Herbert suffered a defeat in his only encounter with Djokovic to date at the 2013 Paris Masters.
Lajovic, Kecmanovic and Medjedovic through to Rome Masters second round
ROME - Serbian tennis players Dusan Lajovic, Miomir Kecmanovic and Hamad Medjedovic are all through to the second round of the Rome Masters tournament.
In the opening round, Lajovic defeated Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 after two hours and 31 minutes of play last night.
Lajovic will next face Argentine Sebastian Baez.
Djokovic seeded in Rome Masters first round
ROME - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis singles, will be seeded in the first round of the Rome Masters tournament and was on Monday drawn to face the winner of the tie between Russian Roman Safiullin and a qualifier in the second round.
Djokovic is the top seed at the tournament.

Ruud beats Tsitsipas to win Barcelona Open a week after loss in Monte Carlo
Casper Ruud took his revenge against Stefanos Tsitsipas by winning the Barcelona Open final in straight sets on Sunday for his biggest career title, a week after losing to the Greek in the Monte Carlo Masters final.
Ruud won 7-5, 6-3 for his first title of the season after losing the three other finals he played this year.
Ruud and Tsitsipas reach Barcelona semis, one step away from another title clash
Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas won to advance to the Barcelona Open semifinals on Friday, keeping them on course to meet in a second straight final.
Ruud beat Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 6-3 to notch his season-leading 27th win. The sixth-ranked Norwegian has two more wins than Jannik Sinner.
Tsitsipas saved two match points to rally past Facundo Díaz 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8).
Djokovic begins 421st week at top of ATP rankings
BELGRADE - Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic began his 421st week at the top of the ATP rankings on Monday.
According to the ATP website, Djokovic currently has 10,035 points - 310 more than last week, despite a 4-6,6-1, 4-6 defeat to Norwegian Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters semi-finals at the weekend.
