How exactly does one define the spirit of Bodrum? Once, it was the sleepy little fishing village, with its main income being sponge diving. It was a typical idyllic Aegean town adorned with a magnificent castle, a remembrance of a distant glorious past.

National boxer wins gold at European Games
National boxer Busenaz Sürmeneli bagged the gold medal at the third European Games in Poland by defeating her Belgian rival.
In the 66 kg category, Sürmeneli won gold after beating her Belgian opponent Oshin Derieuw in all three rounds with a score of 5-0 in each round.

Four former Turkish generals jailed for 1997 'postmodern' coup
Fourteen retired generals were handed life sentences for their involvement in the forced resignation of the democratically elected government in early 1997, often called "postmodern coup," while seven of them, including former 1st Army Commander Gen. Çetin Doğan and former deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Çevik Bir, were jailed on late Aug. 19.
