Greece clinches transport and tourism portfolio in new EU Commission

Greece's Apostolos Tzitzikostas has been assigned the transport and tourism portfolio in the next European Union executive, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday, announcing the body's new makeup.

The governor of Central Macedonia had been nominated for a post in the new Commission in early August.

Cyprus picks scientist Costas Kadis for EU Commissioner post

Cyprus has named Costas Kadis, a scientist who held several cabinet posts in previous administrations, as its nominee for a post in the European Commission.

If the EU's parliament confirms the 57-year-old in the role, he will replace Cyprus's Stella Kyriakidou, who holds the health portfolio. Kadis had not been among those rumoured for the post.

Cyprus to register red potato

Cyprus' Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment is about to register the red potato, the countrys second most important agricultural product, with the European Union for which an application for registration has been published in the republic's official gazette.

Deputy FM Quick in Cyprus

 

Deputy Foreign Minister Terence Quick will participate in the 19th World Conference of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots and the third trilateral meeting Greece-Cyprus-Israel.

He will also be received by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kassoulides and Education Minister Costas Kadis.

Bulgaria, Cyprus to Jointly Combat Artifacts Trafficking

Bulgarian and Cyprus on Friday signed a memorandum that will help them fight against the trafficking in artifacts and efforts to retrieve stolen items, the Culture Ministry has said.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov and Cyprus Transport Minister Marios Demetriades as the former was visiting the island.
