Bulgaria's most Powerful Politician Buys Varna Power Station

Ahmed Dogan, the controversial chairman of honour of Bulgaria's ethnic-Turk Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), has acquired 70% stake in local company SIGDA, which is the owner of the Varna thermal power plant, for an undisclosed sum, according to information from the company register.
Former Bulgarian PM To Run for President
Former Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski has filed documents with the Central Election Commission as a presidential candidate for the elections on November 6.
Oresharski has been nominated by an initiative committee. Danail Papazov, former Transport Minister in the Oresharski Cabinet, has been nominated for Vice President.

Derailed Sofia-Varna Train Traveled 60 Km/H Above Limit
The train from Sofia to Varna which went off the tracks on Saturday at the Kaloyanovets station was moving at a speed of 100 km/h at the time of the incident, authorities say.
The speed limit in the section of the railroad it was crossing was 40 km/h.

Transport Minister Danail Papazov has said it will take five to seven years to raise the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) "back on their feet".
He added the state was waiting for approval from Brussels to grant some BGN 170 M (EUR 85 M) to the cash-stripped railway company, which is still struggling to deliver on its debts accumulated prior to Bulgaria's accession into the EU.
