New US ambassador presents credentials to President Erdoğan

The United States' new ambassador to Turkey, Jeffrey Lane Flake, presented his credentials to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Jan. 26.

Flake, a former Republican senator, arrived in Turkey on Jan. 7 , replacing David Satterfield, who will serve as the U.S. special envoy to the Horn of Africa.

Turkey summons US envoy to protest in ‘strongest terms’

Turkey told Washington's envoy it took the "strongest" exception to a U.S. statement on the massacre of 13 Turkish citizens over the weekend, said the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

"Today, U.S. Ambassador David Satterfield was summoned to our ministry, and our reaction to the statement by the US was voiced in the strongest terms," said a ministry statement on Feb. 15.

Turkey's virus guidelines sensible, working: US envoy

The U.S. ambassador in Ankara on May 21 praised Turkey's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying the guidelines are "sensible" and "working."

"We have high regard for the care and attention that Turkish officials have given to protecting all those who live in Turkey from this disease," David Satterfield told Anadolu Agency.
