David Sweat, one of two New York state inmates who escaped from prison three weeks ago, was shot by police near the Canadian border and rushed to a local hospital on June 28, two days after his accomplice was killed, authorities said. 

The search for two convicted killers in New York shifted after possible sightings in the southern part of the state, 350 miles (565 kilometers) from the prison where the men escaped two weeks ago.

With police helicopters hovering overhead, hundreds of law enforcement officers in body armor poured into this small town in the Adirondack foothills June 9 in a search for two killers who used power tools to break out of a maximum-security prison 30 miles (50 kilometers) away.

A frantic manhunt was on June 7 for two convicted murderers who busted out of New York state's biggest maximum security prison by cutting through cell walls with power tools and escaping along tunnels.
