Red Star v FMP, Partizan v Hercegovac in Serbian basketball cup
BELGRADE - Title holders Red Star Belgrade were on Tuesday drawn to play FMP in the quarter-finals of Serbia's Radivoj Korac basketball cup, with arch-rivals Partizan to face Hercegovac Gajdobra, who will make their first-ever appearance in the competition.
The other two quarter-final games are Borac Cacak v Cacak 94 and Mega v Vojvodina Novi Sad.

RTV poll shows Pirc Musar in the lead in presidential race
Ljubljana – Lawyer and ex-Info Commissioner Nataša Pirc Musar is in the lead in the presidential race, according to a poll conducted by Mediana for public broadcaster RTV Slovenija. She enjoys the support of 23.9% of respondents and is followed by former foreign minister Anže Logar (16.6%) and Freedom Movement vice-president Marta Kos (14.4%).
Election debate focusses on situation in culture
Ljubljana – Eleven parties contesting the upcoming general election participated in a debate about their arts and culture platforms held by a group of cultural NGOs in the Kino Šiška arts centre on Monday. They focused on four themes: the legislative framework, budget and resource allocation, decentralisation and dialogue.

Inquiry chair: Hearings show police chiefs but puppets under this govt
Ljubljana – Rudi Medved, an opposition MP heading the inquiry into alleged political interference in police work, summed up a series of witness hearings on Monday by saying these confirmed the Slovenian police commissioners under the current government were “but obedient executors of ruling politics” while experts had no say in the force.
New Year’s Eve Kiss celebrates 50th anniversary
Maribor – A pop song without which Slovenians can hardly imagine a New Year’s Eve is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To mark the anniversary, a museum in Maribor honoured its singer and citizen Alfi Nipič with an exhibition which traces his 60-year career while he marked the anniversary in hospital ill with Covid-19.

Opposition wants minister to resign over vaccination death, he sees no reason to do so
Ljubljana – Four opposition parties called on Health Minister Janez Poklukar to resign over the vaccination death of a young woman after the newspaper Dnevnik reported that Poklukar and his team were the authors of the decree granting a Covid pass as soon as a person receives the Johnson & Johnson jab. The minister sees no reason to step down.

Portorož – This year’s Vesna Award for best feature film went to Prasica, Slabšalni Izraz za Žensko (Bitch, a Derogatory Term for a Woman), a debut by Tijana Zinajić, as the Festival of Slovenian Film wrapped up in the coastal town of Portorož on Sunday evening with the conferring of what are considered Slovenian Oscars.
