The Venezuelan foreign minister announced the country will withdraw from the Organization of American States (OAS) after it voted to call an emergency meeting of foreign ministers without Caracas' approval.

Venezuela's Supreme Court on Feb. 16 upheld opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez's nearly 14-year prison sentence, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump called for his release.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's government ordered the suspension of CNN's Spanish-language service from Venezuela's airwaves on Feb. 15, accusing it of distorting the truth in coverage. 

U.S.-based 'CNN en Espanol' became unavailable on Venezuela's major cable providers minutes after a statement by telecommunications regulator Conatel announcing the suspension. 

Venezuela's top diplomat turned up uninvited to a meeting of the South America's Mercosur on Dec. 14, despite Caracas' suspension from the trade bloc for failing to meet democratic and trade standards.

Colombia and Venezuela recalled their ambassadors on Aug. 27 for consultations, amid mounting tensions that began nearly a week ago when Caracas closed off their shared border.
