Resolving name dispute 'passport' for Skopje's EU, NATO ambitions, Papadimoulis says

SYRIZA MEP and European Parliament Vice President Dimitris Papadimoulis has welcomed the efforts of the new government in Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to find a solution to the lingering name dispute with Greece, adding that a mutually accepted settlement would serve as a "passport" for the Balkan state's EU and NATO ambitions.

Greek leaders react cautiously to Erdogan victory

Greek political party leaders have reacted cautiously after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed victory in a referendum on Sunday on granting him sweeping new powers.

SYRIZA MEP and Vice President of European Parliament Dimitris Papadimoulis said the referendum showed just how divided Turkey is and described the result as a disputed victory by Erdogan.

New EP President Tajani calls FYROM “Macedonia” (video)

A video showing the newly elected President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani referring to FYROM as “Macedonia”, has caused a backlash in Greece. The Italian politician went a step further by dubbing the citizens of FYROM descendants of Alexander the Great during a visit in the country’s capital Skopje, in February in his capacity as European Commissioner.
