Acclaimed Greek director Nikos S. Petropoulos has always regarded Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca" as a highly cinematic opera that could be seen as the precursor to the moving picture. In his production for the Greek National Opera, the setting is Rome in World War II, focusing on the element of violence and sadism.

Il trovatore | Athens | July 27

This is the last evening to enjoy the Greek National Opera's production of Giuseppe Verdi's ever-popular "Il trovatore" at the capital's Herod Atticus Theater. The four-act melodrama is presented in an impressive production, with top-flight performers in the main roles, such as Walter Fraccaro, Cellia Costea, Jelena Manistina, Dimitris Platanias and Dimitris Tiliakos.

ERT Symphony Orchestra | Athens | January 9

The ERT Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Bedrich Smetana, Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert, Hector Berlioz and Nikos Christodoulou, who will also conduct, at the Athens Concert Hall on Monday, January 9. The ensemble will be joined by baritone Dimitris Tiliakos. The concert starts at 8.30 p.m. Admission is set at 10 euros (5 euros reduced).
