Mikis Theodorakis – The historic concert in Karaiskaki Stadium

At the age of 96, Mikis Theodorakis passed away, leaving behind an invaluable legacy.

Mikis was imprisoned and tortured during the dictatorship and only in 1970 was he released under intense pressure from great international divs such as Lawrence Olivier, Dmitry Shostakovich, Arthur Miller, Leonard Bernstein, and others.

Transcription Ensemble | Athens | May 10

The Transcription Ensemble - comprising Yiorgos Kandylidis on violin, cellist Christos Grimpas and Nikos Zafranas on piano - will perform works by Alexander Scriabin, Arthur Lourie, Paul Juon, Sergey Prokofiev and Dmitry Shostakovich inspired by photographs of Russian avant-garde art from the Costakis Collection that will be shown during the concert. The show starts at 8.30 p.m.

The Athens State Orchestra performs works by Christos Samaras, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Dmitry Shostakovich at the Athens Concert Hall on Friday, May 20. The ensemble is conducted by Ekhart Wycik. Also taking part in the concert is pianist Vassilis Varvaresos. The concert starts at 8.30 p.m. An introductory talk for ticket-holders will take place at 7.45 p.m.
