Charred landscape of southern provinces coming back to life
The charred landscapes of the southern provinces of Antalya and Muğla marred by the devastating forest fires in 2021 are now witnessing a remarkable rebirth.
The fires that burned for two weeks started in Manavgat-Antalya on Jul. 28, 2021, and spread to Muğla's Köyceğiz district the next day. The blazes were brought under control on Aug. 12.
Expert proposes to sell burned trees, use money in fight against wildfires
A Turkish expert has advised authorities to sell all the trees burned in last month's wildfires that devastated forests in 53 provinces out of all 81 late July and use the money collected in the fight against future forest fires.
According to data from the General Directorate of Forestry, some 133,000 hectares of land have been burnt.
Turkey should take lessons from deadly Greek wildfires
Turkey faces similar risks and while it is good at extinguishing forest fires it needs to focus more on preventive measures, according to Professor Doğanay Tolunay, from İstanbul University's Forestry Faculty.
