Panathinaikos averted a Cup upset by the skin of its teeth, while Olympiakos and PAOK eased through to the quarterfinals of the competition.

A highly controversial penalty awarded to PAOK on the sixth minute of the five-minute injury time of the game against Panathinaikos extended the champions' unbeaten record in the league that stretches to 20 months, and maintained Olympiakos' lead at the top to just two points.

PAOK has gone five points clear at the top of the Super League, as Olympiakos came from behind to end the unbeaten run of second-placed Atromitos in a spectacular match at Peristeri on Sunday. Champion AEK lost again.

AEK is four points away from winning its first league title in 24 years after it beat Panathinaikos in the Athens derby on Sunday and Olympiakos dropped two more points at Livadia.

Panathinaikos have signed left back Emanuel Insua from Italian club Udinese on a 3-year contract, according to reporter Tasos Nikologiannis from sports radio station Sport FM. The Greek club acquired 60% of the 26-year-old’s rights while the Italian team retains the remaining 40%. Insua, who is from Argentina but has an Italian passport, will receive an annual fee of 220,000 euros.
