Excavation works in Bathonea reveal life traces dating back 800,000 years
Within the scope of Bathonea Antique Harbor excavation works, which started 12 years ago in Istanbul's Avcılar neighborhood, new and significant findings have come to light, according to the head of the excavations, Associate Professor Şengül Aydıngün from Kocaeli University.
First African in Istanbul found near Lake Küçükçekmece
A 1,000-year-old skull and various bones thought to belong to an African person have been found at the excavations at the ancient city of Bathonea near Lake Küçükçekmece in Istanbul.
The skull differs from the other 70 skulls found in the city with its wider face and forehead structure, spreading nose and pronounced jaw, according to experts.

Stained glass evidence of high living standards in ancient Bathonea
Nearly 20,000 pieces of glass have been unearthed and evaluated amid excavations at the ancient site of Bathonea on the Küçükçekmece Lake Basin in Istanbul's Avcılar district.
According to archeologists, the glass findings reveal that locals in the area 1,500 years ago had high living standards, using strained glass in buildings as well as window glasses.
