Child death linked to parvovirus outbreak in Thessaloniki kindergarten

The National Public Health Organization (EODY) alerted medical associations throughout Greece about a spike in parvovirus cases among children at a kindergarten in Thessaloniki, after a 3.5-year-old child passed away after developing acute myocarditis due to parvovirus B19. 

Health warning issued by EODY over African dust

With the expected arrival of more African dust, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) has recommended a limit on outdoor activities, and if not possible, the use of high-respiratory protection masks. It advised people to improve indoor air quality with air purifiers, cleaning surfaces with a damp cloth, and avoiding smoking or vacuuming.

Syphilis and gonorrhea on the increase

Cases of syphilis increased by over 113 percent and of gonorrhea by over 120 percent between 2020 and 2022, data from the Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) has shown.

In 2022, there were 862 syphilis diagnoses compared with 404 in 2020. Gonorrhea diagnoses went up from 164 to 362 in the same period.

Covid deaths ease as prevalence rises

Covid-related deaths dropped slightly to 15 in the period from July 17 to 23 from 16 the week before that, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) confirmed in its weekly bulletin on Thursday.

The number of patients who had to be intubated, seven, marked a 75% rise compared to the four-week average before it.
