Turkey seeks to replenish severely depleted military

The groups most affected by mass purges after the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey were the military cadets at high school and university levels. The government dismissed about 7,000 officer candidates attending four-year military high schools and four-year academies and transferred them to civilian schools.

President Erdoğan appoints rector to newly-founded National Defense University

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has appointed a history professor, Erhan Afyoncu, as the rector of the National Defense University, a newly founded institution gathering together former military academies which were closed with a decree law in the aftermath of the July 15 coup attempt, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
