Turkish historians have lashed out at the world's richest man Elon Musk for his "1453 Constantinople" tweet, hinting that Istanbul was conquered, not with a military victory, but due to an open gate forgotten by Byzantine soldiers.

The groups most affected by mass purges after the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey were the military cadets at high school and university levels. The government dismissed about 7,000 officer candidates attending four-year military high schools and four-year academies and transferred them to civilian schools.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has appointed a history professor, Erhan Afyoncu, as the rector of the National Defense University, a newly founded institution gathering together former military academies which were closed with a decree law in the aftermath of the July 15 coup attempt, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Historian Erhan Afyoncu?s new book on the Tomb of Süleyman Shah has just been released. The book, which is published by the Üsküdar Municipality?s press department, was introduced to the public on March 11.
