Former Independent Greeks (ANEL) MP Dimitris Kammenos said Monday he plans to join an alliance with other nationalist politicians in a bid to "fill the vacuum" on the right end of Greece's ideological spectrum.

A decision by Defense Minister Panos Kammenos to receive the leader of a minor nationalist party and an independent MP planning her own right-leaning movement at the ministry on Friday fueled speculation about a possible bid to form a right-wing movement ahead of possible snap elections.

Two lawsuits were filed against Greek Education Minister Nikos Filis on Monday by the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s office. These were filed in connection with controversial comments he made negating the occurence of the 1914-23 genocide of Black Sea Pontic Greeks.

A 22-year-old man alleged to have confessed to killing a 41-year-old homeless woman in Glyfada, southern Athens, as a “sacrifice to Satan” on Easter Sunday was to be transferred to the psychiatric unit of Attica’s high-security Korydallos Prison on Thursday after testifying before a prosecutor and an investigating magistrate.

New Democracy has finalized its candidate list for the May 25 European Parliament elections. It contains nominees from a range of backgrounds, including academia, sports and journalism, and is due to be announced in the next few days.
